John 15: 13 Greater love hath no man than this, than that a man lay down his life for his friends.
If you want to know the core of Jesus Christ our Lord it is found in this verse. Jesus knowing that he would be the ultimate sacrifice for sin, was not as concerned over his death as He was that we understand the reason. We see other reasons for His eventual sacrifice in this well-known verse. John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Jesus came only to provide a guilty and perverse people, a way to be reconciled to God the Father. His sacrifice cleansed us from all sin and filth.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
What I am leading to is the love that God has for His creation. Even though we sin and omit His commandments, He still loves us and wants us to be with Him eternally. The Lord sends His blessings on everyone, believers and unbelievers the same. We don’t really get this as we are not that way naturally. We have no desire to have good things happen to those who have wronged us. But God does, we have all sinned against Him, and yet He still offers absolution. He offers complete forgiveness for our sins against Him and as He states, will remember them no more. God has always asked that we return to Him, admit our sins and be forgiven so He can fully bless us.
So think of how we have been to our God. Most of us have been forgetful, forgetting that He has commanded us to love everyone. We are not mindful of the blessings He bestows on us daily. This never depends on whether we are believers or not.
Matthew 5:44 44 [a]But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
Matthew 5:45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he make his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
The Lord when He walked the earth did not ask anyone to become righteous before He would heal them. As a matter of fact, He stated that He came for the sinners, not the righteous. If then, the Lord cares so much for the worst, how can we turn away anyone else? The Lord did not judge anyone, only offered compassion and salvation. Picture the twelve He chose to walk with Him. Just ordinary people with sins such as ours. Living their daily lives with no reason to change or even consider their sins. Jesus chose them and loved them, taught them the word of God. The forgiveness of sin and all we have to do to get that is to believe.
We are to love as He did. We are to follow His example. That is obedience to God. We must in our faith and belief, be believers of the word. As believers, we become doers. That pleases God. We have the Holy Spirit to convict us and guide us. All we have to do is obey. The Lords blessings are already yours to claim. The promises of God are yours to claim, just through belief in the Son of God and the acceptance of the grace of God. Jesus tells us to keep His commands as He is our Lord.
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
Amen
